Inside: Artist Showcase at The Hotel Cafe

Our performance course culminates with an artist showcase at The Hotel Cafe, where each artist has the opportunity to perform a few songs with a live band. This is one of our free community events that takes place each fall and spring terms.

The Hotel Cafe: An Iconic Hub for Indie Music in Los Angeles

Founded in 2000, The Hotel Cafe quickly became a sanctuary for singer-songwriters and indie musicians. Unlike larger venues where artists often perform before a sea of faces, The Hotel Cafe’s small, intimate space allows for a closer connection between performers and their audience—a feature that has attracted both seasoned musicians and fresh talent looking to make their mark. Offering a cozy, no-frills setting, artists can more easily provide raw and unfiltered performances for their fans.

Many well-known artists got their start at The Hotel Cafe, including Sara Bareilles, John Mayer, Ingrid Michaelson, and The Weepies. For many of these musicians, their Hotel Cafe performances marked pivotal moments in their careers, helping them build loyal fanbases before their music hit the mainstream. The venue has also hosted an array of rising stars and special events, including regular songwriter showcases, open mic nights, and intimate acoustic performances.

Despite its relatively small size, The Hotel Cafe has had an outsized impact on the Los Angeles music scene. It has long been regarded as a launching pad for indie artists, giving them a platform to hone their craft and reach new audiences. Over the years, it has maintained a reputation as a place where authenticity and passion take center stage, and where the magic of live music is always on full display.

Whether you’re an aspiring musician, a die-hard music fan, or simply looking for a unique night out in Los Angeles, The Hotel Cafe offers an experience that is as personal as it is memorable. It’s a space that continues to celebrate the art of live music in all its forms, making it a true staple of L.A.’s thriving indie scene.
