Last Saturday, November 15th, Hollywood Vocal Foundation hosted a hands-on look into the world-class programs offered at Hollywood Vocal Studios Conservatory. Designed to give emerging artists a true taste of our holistic training approach, the day was filled with creativity, performance breakthroughs, and one-on-one mentorship from industry-leading instructors.
From songwriting and stage presence to vocal technique, students experienced firsthand how HVSC nurtures artists from the ground up.
🎼 1. Songwriting 101 with Mentor Stephen Wunderlich
We kicked off the morning with a dynamic workshop led by HVSC mentor and songwriting instructor Stephen Wunderlich. His focus: helping students understand where to begin when starting a song, and where to go when you’re stuck.
Stephen broke down the essentials:
- Start by getting every idea on the page — don’t censor yourself.
- Mix minor and major chords to create a more complex sonic palette.
- Note what has worked in popular songs with structure, rhyme scheme, and flow, and emulate it.
- Then refine, shape, and zoom out to find the through line of your song.
But the true highlight? Stephen invited the entire group to write a song with him in real time. Students watched their ideas evolve from scattered thoughts and experiences into lyrics — then into a meaningful, collaborative piece of music. It was an amazing way to practice songwriting technique on the spot, guided by a mentor who lives and breathes the craft.

🎤 2. Performance Class with Founder Adreana Gonzalez
After lunch, students gathered for an immersive performance class led by Adreana Gonzalez, founder of HVSC. Each student stepped on stage to perform one song, receive personalized feedback, and apply it in real-time.
Adreana’s coaching centered around building presence and confidence:
- Make intentional eye contact to create connection.
- Own the stage — movement builds confidence and energy.
- Choose songs that highlight your strengths as an artist.
Her supportive, high-impact feedback transformed performances right before our eyes.

These one-on-one lessons gave students personalized, hands-on guidance in:
- Vocal technique
- Breath control
