Write Songs That Connect
Step Inside the Creative Process of a Working Songwriter
Great songs do more than sound good. They make us feel something.
On Saturday, November 7 at 1:00 PM, HVS Conservatory welcomes recording artist, producer and songwriter Sizzy Rocket for an immersive Songwriting Camp designed to help artists strengthen their songwriting, trust their creative instincts, and develop songs that feel authentic to who they are.
Part of the HVS Artist Camp Series, this hands-on intensive gives singers, songwriters, and independent artists the opportunity to experience the collaborative environment of a professional writers’ room while learning from an artist who has built her career around fearless creativity and a distinctive artistic voice.
Whether you’re writing your first songs or already releasing original music, Songwriting Camp is about becoming a stronger, more confident songwriter.
More Than Writing Lyrics
Songwriting is often misunderstood as simply putting words to music.
Professional songwriting involves a much larger creative process: developing a compelling concept, finding the emotional center of a song, crafting memorable melodies and hooks, shaping lyrics, understanding structure, collaborating with other writers, and knowing when an idea is worth pursuing.
During our Songwriting Camp, Sizzy will take artists inside that process.
Rather than approaching songwriting as a formula, participants will explore how the different elements of a song work together while learning how to protect the individuality that makes their writing their own.
What You’ll Learn at Songwriting Camp
🎵 Develop Strong Song Concepts & Hooks
Every great song begins somewhere.
Learn how to recognize compelling ideas, turn everyday experiences into song concepts, and develop hooks that give listeners something to remember.
✍️ Write Lyrics That Feel Personal
Specificity can transform a lyric.
Artists will explore how to write from an authentic point of view while creating lyrics that feel personal, emotionally engaging, and relatable to an audience.
🎶 Connect Melody & Structure
A powerful lyric needs the right musical environment.
Discover how melody and song structure work together to support an idea, build momentum, and create memorable moments throughout a song.
🤝 Collaborate Like a Professional
Songwriting is frequently collaborative, particularly in today’s recording industry.
Participants will experience the dynamics of working with other writers—sharing ideas, communicating creatively, knowing when to push an idea further, and learning how to contribute while still maintaining their individual artistic voice.
⚡ Get Out of Your Head and Into the Creative Process
One of the biggest obstacles writers face is overthinking.
Songwriting Camp will encourage artists to generate ideas quickly, take creative risks, and learn how to stay in a creative flow without judging every idea before it has the opportunity to develop.
💬 Give & Receive Constructive Feedback
Learning how to receive feedback is an important part of becoming a professional artist.
Participants will explore how thoughtful feedback can strengthen a song while learning to recognize which creative decisions are essential to their own artistic identity.
Learn from Recording Artist & Songwriter Sizzy Rocket
Known for her fearless artistic identity, poetic lyricism, DIY ethos, and punk-inspired approach to pop music, Sizzy Rocket has built a career by refusing to fit neatly into a box.
Originally from Las Vegas, Sizzy developed her songwriting while attending NYU’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music and performing throughout New York City’s underground music scene. After relocating to Los Angeles, she signed a publishing deal with Universal Music Group and has written for and collaborated with artists including Noah Cyrus, Blu DeTiger, Uffie, and Hey Violet.
As an independent artist, Sizzy has continued to develop her own distinctive body of work through albums, touring, visual projects, and live performance.
Her career gives developing artists an important perspective: strong songwriting isn’t about learning how to sound like everyone else.
It’s about developing the skills to communicate your own point of view more powerfully.
Experience a Professional Writers’ Room
One of the most valuable parts of Songwriting Camp is the opportunity to write.
This isn’t a lecture where artists simply hear about songwriting techniques.
Participants will explore ideas, collaborate, experiment, receive feedback, and experience the creative decision-making that takes place inside professional songwriting sessions.
For developing artists, learning how to navigate that environment can be just as valuable as learning songwriting technique itself.
You learn how to contribute ideas.
You learn when to listen.
You learn how to build on someone else’s creativity.
And, perhaps most importantly, you begin learning how to trust your own instincts.
Who Should Attend?
Songwriting Camp is designed for singers, songwriters, recording artists, musicians, and emerging artists who want to become stronger storytellers and more confident creative collaborators.
You don’t need to be an experienced songwriter to participate.
The Camp is equally valuable for artists beginning to explore original music and established writers looking to break out of familiar creative patterns, strengthen their process, or gain a fresh perspective.
Why Songwriting Matters for Today’s Artists
Artists have more opportunities than ever to release music independently.
But that also means audiences have more music competing for their attention than ever before.
A distinctive voice and a great performance matter—but ultimately, the song still matters.
Understanding songwriting gives artists greater creative independence. It allows them to communicate their identity, participate more confidently in writing sessions, collaborate effectively with producers and other writers, and create music that reflects who they actually are.
That’s why songwriting is an essential part of artist development at HVS Conservatory.
Part of the HVS Artist Camp Series
Songwriting Camp is part of the HVS Artist Camp Series—focused, short-form intensives designed to give artists the opportunity to dive deeply into one essential area of their craft without the longer-term commitment of the full Conservatory program.
Throughout the series, artists can explore vocal technique, performance, songwriting, toplining, and music production while learning directly from working artists and industry professionals.
Each Camp is designed around practical experience, professional insight, and helping artists develop their own individual creative identity.
