An Electronic Press Kit (EPK) is an essential tool for vocal performers looking to showcase their talent to industry professionals, including talent agents, venue bookers, journalists, and potential collaborators. A well-crafted artist EPK is your digital portfolio that can open doors and provide a snapshot of your artistry.
What To Include In Your Artist EPK
A well-structured EPK is an artist’s key to presenting themselves effectively to the music industry. By including a compelling bio, music samples, videos, press coverage, and contact details, you can create a powerful tool that opens doors and creates new opportunities in your music career. Here are some tips for assembling your artist EPK:
1. Biography
Your bio is a brief yet engaging story of who you are as an artist. Start with a compelling hook or anecdote. Highlight key milestones in your career, your musical influences, genre, and any unique aspects of your voice or performances. Keep it concise (around 300-400 words), emphasizing both your artistry and achievements. Tailor the bio to your target audience, whether it’s for booking agents, fans, or media outlets.
2. Music Samples
A crucial element of your EPK is showcasing your vocal talent through high-quality audio clips. Include 3-5 tracks that best represent your sound, from studio recordings to live performances. Make sure the tracks are polished and highlight different aspects of your vocal range or style. Choose tracks that are diverse but also cohesive with your image. Provide links to streaming platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, or YouTube for easy access.
3. Press Photos
Professional, high-quality press photos are vital for media outlets, promoters, and other industry professionals. Aim for 2-4 high-resolution images that showcase your personality, performance style, and image. These photos should be versatile for various media uses, such as website banners or promotional materials. Include both headshots and full-body shots to provide variety.
4. Videos
Video is a powerful tool to capture the essence of your live performances or visual content. Include a performance video, such as a live concert, a rehearsal clip, or a well-produced music video. Videos let potential clients or collaborators see your stage presence and energy in action. Keep videos under 3 minutes and choose where your vocal ability shines. If you don’t have a high-budget music video, even a smartphone clip from a live show can be effective.
5. Press Coverage and reviews
If you’ve received any media attention—whether in blogs, newspapers, radio, or TV—include these clippings or links. Positive reviews, interviews, or features validate your professional standing and build credibility. Include direct quotes and links to articles or video interviews for easy access. If possible, include testimonials from industry professionals or fans.
6. Upcoming Events
If you’re actively performing or have upcoming shows, list them in your EPK. This section is particularly important for booking agents and venues that are considering you for performances. Include show dates, locations, and ticketing details.
7. Contact Information
Ensure your EPK includes clear, up-to-date contact details, so potential collaborators, managers, or promoters can easily reach you. Provide separate contacts for booking, press inquiries, and general information if possible. Include both email and phone contact info. Add links to your social media profiles (Instagram, Facebook, X, etc.) for further engagement.
Make sure the design aligns with your artistic identity.
Once you’ve gathered all the necessary components, assemble them into a visually appealing and easy-to-navigate digital format. Many vocal performers use EPK platforms like Submithub, ReverbNation, or OneSheet, but you can also create a PDF version or host it on your website. Your artist EPK should reflect your unique style. Keep it simple and professional, ensuring it’s easy for people to find the information they need.
